Coping with Cancer and Cancer Risk
Women’s Mental Health Associates specializes in improving the well-being of women facing the diagnosis of breast, gynecological, colon, and other cancers. Providers work with women of all ages with early and advanced cancer before, during, and after treatment(s) in the areas listed below. We also work with women who are at “high risk” for cancer as well as individuals who are caring for ill family members with cancer.
- Preparing for biopsies, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, and other treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, reconstruction)
- Decisions about genetic testing and preventative treatment
- Reducing fatigue and pain with exercise, hypnosis, relaxation with guided imagery, mindfulness techniques, etc.
- Coping with cancer when you are single (single, separated, divorced, or widowed)
- Treating depression and anxiety
- Improving self esteem and body image after cancer treatment
- Improving relationship communication and intimacy
- Improving sexual satisfaction and functioning after treatment
- Reducing menopausal related symptoms
- Talking to children, family, friends, coworkers, and healthcare providers about cancer
- Coping with fears of recurrence
- Establishing well-being after treatment
- Decisions about fertility/parenting options during and after treatment
- Coping with advanced disease
- Dealing with end of life issues
- Spiritual issues during and after cancer treatment
